I'm back!

Hello everyone, sorry for being gone for so long! These past few months have been very hectic and shall continue to be until the summer. Because of this I haven't been dressing up too much, and I do miss it a lot. With the weather reaching +26, I feel like it would be the perfect time to start that again.

As you can tell from the photo above, I have dyed my hair a light auburn. I think it suits me pretty well and will look fantastic with the dress I am wearing for grad.

I hope to be able to start posting again, so thank you for reading this and I shall see you again soon!

Outfit Post

Tonight I went out to a hockey game, so I thought that I would dress up. I wore this adorable 1960's dress and jacket set by Irving Korny. I found it a few days ago at a thrift store and immediately fell in love. It wasn't badly priced either, at only $7.

Sometimes it can be really fun going out dressed in vintage head to toe. Tonight I went to a local hockey game, a hobby of mine. I wore this there and sometimes it was hilarious to see people's reactions. Most of the time people do enjoy what I wear, though there have been a few unimpressed stares, mainly from younger women. I do have to say though, that most elderly people do enjoy seeing me dress like this on a regular basis.

The accessories I am wearing are a 1950's velvet hat and three bracelets all from a thrift store. Sadly the bracelets aren't Bakelite  but I like them anyways. They actually can fit onto my wrists, which is surprising because vintage jewelry usually doesn't. I do wish I had some Bakelite in my collection that actually fit me. One day I suppose!

Thank you for reading, and have a wonderful day!

A Very Casual Day

Today was a very casual day for me, as you may have noticed. I have been battling a rough cold this past week and finally I am starting to feel better. With the snow still outside I needed to dress warmly, but figured I could probably get away with a sweater and pedal pushers.

Sweater: Christmas Gift
Pedal Pushers: Freddie's of Pinewood
Glasses: RayBan (prescription)

I would also like to show you two dresses I found that almost made me faint at the site of them.

Last night I was out at thrifting at my local Value Village. I was looking through the "vintage" rack they have and came across these two stunning party dresses. I must admit, at first I could barely believed my eyes. They are both from the 1950's and are in extremely good condition. I tried them on in the changing rooms, and they actually fit me! There was also a black party dress with sequins on the bodice, but that was much too small in the bust.

When I reached the checkout I paid a measly $50 for these beautiful dresses. Now I normally wouldn't pay that much at a thrift store, but I absolutely could not pass them by.

I wish you luck on your next thrifting adventure!

Quick Outfit Post

Hello everyone, this is what I wore today. It is a 1960's Windsor Dress that I found at my local Value Village. I find the colours in it quite pleasing to the eye, and I thought today would be a good day to wear it. I am not feeling too well at the moment, so sorry for this post being so short. Thank you for reading, I shall post more when I am feeling better!

Returning From Vacation

Hello! I have not had the chance to post in awhile because last week I was in Mexico for February break. It was absolutely beautiful there, and very warm compared to here. My family stayed in Cancun but we did visit Chichen Itza and the Sacred Cenote. I thought it was absolutely fascinating to see the buildings that were still standing today after surviving for hundreds of years in the jungle. If you are interested in seeing some of the photos I took, just ask and I shall post my flickr account.

Today I felt like dressing very brightly, in order to persuade the snow to go away. Sadly, I do not think it worked. No matter though, it did manage to cheer a few people up.

I recently bought this cute 1960's dress at a thrift store when they were having a 50% off sale. It was an absolute steal at $2 on sale. It's made of wool so it does scratch a bit, but they always say beauty is painful.

Thank you for reading!

The Season of Love

Valentines day is here in three days, and in preparation I have been looking for cute valentines cards to give to my friends. It is quite hard to find any vintage ones where I live, so I found some that would still work if you printed them out. Now I do recommend  using a thick paper to print them on just so they do not get wrinkled. A cute idea would be to tape some candy to them. Here are some of my favourites.

I hope you have an amazing Valentines Day, and make sure to spend time with your loved ones.

60's School Girl

Today I really felt like dressing up with a slight school girl vibe. I think I captured it quite well. The dress was a gift from my parents on Christmas. I wore it with black ballet flats. There are more photos after the jump.

Styling My Hair

Recently I have been quite annoyed with my hair, because I was not able to figure out how to style it in a vintage style. I have good news though, because I finally figured it out today.

Now, when I had longer hair I would curl my hair almost as if I put the curl to the side vertically. Today I tried curling my hair in a horizontal manner and it worked! After figuring this out it took very little time to get the hang of it and I now have a new style under my belt. This is the end result.

This is not the greatest picture of the style, but I find it looks a bit like a bouffant once you brush it out. Would anyone be interested in a tutorial for this hairstyle?

I am really excited how this turned out and cannot wait to try it again! Well that is all today, I just thought I would update you on my adventures. Soon there will be another thrift store finds post, so get ready for that. Have a wonderful day!

New Hair and Recent Purchases

Hello again! I completely forgot to mention yesterday that I also got my hair cut.  I am still not too sure if I like it yet, considering I still am not sure how to curl it. It now feels so much healthier though, which is quite nice.

Here is a photo of it the day after I got it cut. I was slightly inspired by Grace Kelly with this new haircut, though I did want it a bit shorter. I asked for a chin length bob and I find it suits me quite well. It is also quite nice because when I'm wearing it straight, I think it looks quite 60's.

Off of that topic, here are some purchases I made in the past few weeks I thought you may be interested in.

I found this 1940's black dress with dazzling green buttons for $20. It does have quite a few fade marks on it, but I still absolutely love it.
I believe this nightgown was $6, and is from the 1960's.

I got this dress for $2 at Value Village. What a deal! I suspect it is hand made from the early 1960's or so.

That is all for today, thank you for reading! :)

Bomb Girls

Hello everyone! Sorry I have not updated in awhile, I was busy writing final this past week and now I am finally done. Today I am showing you some stills from the television show Bomb Girls.

It is set in the 1940's and is about a group of girls working in a munitions factory. It is set in Ontario, Canada which is quite exciting I find haha, and it is a Canadian made show. The costumes in this are absolutely beautiful and are quite authentic. Here are some stills from the second season that I really like.

If you are generally interested in the 1940's, I really suggest you watch this. Along with great costumes, it also has an interesting plot and quite a few funny moments.

What shows set in the past do you watch?

A Pattern Collection

One thing most people don't know about me is that I have an absolutely huge collection of vintage patterns. Of course it is no surprise that most of them don't fit me, considering that most of them are from the 1950's or 60's. I have been quite lucky on my trips to Value Village lately finding some absolute beauties for extremely cheap, and even found two that are my size! Here are some glances into my collection and most of my favourites.

(Isn't this one amazing? I wish it was in my size)

Fashion Inspiration from 1940

Hello everyone! Sorry I haven't updated in awhile, I have been quite busy with school at the moment considering finals are coming up in two weeks. Anyways, today I would like to show some beautiful pictures, ads, and illustrations I found that offer great inspiration for a 1940's look.

(I think the light blue dress on the very top left is absolutely adorable! This add was from a 1948 Seventeen Magazine)

An End and a Beginning

Hello everyone! I hope you had a wonderful time during the holidays, and I wish you a happy new year. The last week has been extremely hectic for me. Here are some pictures from my instagram (vvvixen) describing how my week went.

This is the lovely view I awoke to on Christmas day. I traveled to Vancouver Island to visit family and it was quite nice being able to get away from the snow. Since I was on the island I also ate a lot of fresh smoked salmon. It was delicious.

For Christmas I mainly received clothes and Doctor Who related presents. This was my absolute favourite though, because it has the first three stories ever shown. I just have to find time to watch it now. Also Doctor Who related, I thought the new episode was brilliant! I cannot wait to see the new modern day Clara.

On the 26th I went boxing day shopping to a fairly small shop. They are located on the island and tend to have a mixture of modern and vintage clothing. I found three dresses and bought them all for only $60. I have to say that the dress on the left was my absolute favourite. It will be perfect for around Easter, and it is just so dainty. The red one has a front zipper and I absolutely love the colour of it. The black one on the right was deadstock and originally sold at Sears. The tag was still on it and it originally sold for only $14.

How were your holidays?
Anyways, thank you for reading my first post of 2013 and I hope you have a wonderful new year.
